RUNNER WITH A SOUL
Beza Nababa was born in Ethiopia in 1984. He came to Israel with his family when he was seven years old. Blind from birth, Nababa went to study in Jerusalem. There he joined "Etgarim" - an organization that encourages outdoor sports for people with
special needs. Soon, Nababa began riding a tandem bicycle - a bicycle for two riders - with volunteers from Etgarim. He loved it, but he wanted more. His dream was to become a marathon runner.
In 2005, Nababa put an ad in the newspaper that said: "Runner with soul seeks running partner". Ofer Bendor, a businessman from Ra'anana, replied to the ad. The two began meeting regularly for jogs in Tel Aviv. At first, they ran ten kilometers, but
in time the distances grew.
In 2006, Nababa's dream came true. He participated in the Tiberias marathon, running 42 kilometers along the shores of the Kinneret. Since then, he has taken part in a number of competitions in Europe. He represented lsrael at the 2008 Paralympics in
Today, Nababa continues to practice with his running partner. Even though he didn't win a medal in Beijing. he hopes to win a gold medal next time.
